In the times when big budget movies with overblown stories and larger-than-life heroes are ruling the roost in tinsel town, Rajat Kapoor's Raghu Romeo defies the convention with its shoe-string budget and realistic characters.

The protagonist of the movie, Raghu, is a meek fellow, who works as a waiter in a bar and is mostly occupied with the thoughts of his woman of dreams, Neetaji, an ideal bahu in a TV soap. A hesitant man who is unable to assert himself openly, Raghu is man who would buy a Taj Mahal, the very symbol of platonic love, for his Neetaji, only to be turned back from the reception of the studio where she works. But Raghu's fascination with Neetaji is not fickle. He would lay his own life on line in order to save hers.

It is hard to imagine anyone else other than Vijay Raaz playing the character of Raghu in the movie. His body language, his facial expressions and his dialogue delivery, they all combine very well to bring out the peculiarities of submissive Raghu.

Shukla as the contract killer Mario Brother is simply brilliant. His dialogues are well written and witty enough to throw viewers in fits of laughter.

Raghu Romeo is a well directed movie. Rajat Kapoor captures the spirit of Mumbai - the traffic jams, the noise, the chaos, the night life and the shady characters - all within a duration of less than hundred minutes and also tells a moving story that makes you laugh and then also brings tears to your eyes.

The film has received the Best Film award at Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) Film Festival and has already been showcased at Locarno, Barcelona, Rotterdam, Stockholm, Oslo, San Francisco, Toronto, Shanghai, Florence and Dhaka where it won for Vijay Raaz the Best Actor Award.

Worth a watch.
