'Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani' Trivializing a good story-line

The film Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani focuses on the media war being fought in the TV newsrooms. But the director goes a bit too far in his treatment of the story and seems to lose track.

The film starts on a bright, energetic note with Ajay Bakshi (Shah Rukh Khan), a confident, loudmouth TV reporter, basking in his celebrity status. A rival TV channel, with dropping ratings, hires Ria Banerjee (Juhi Chawla) to counter Ajay's magic.

Ajay is shown as a comic skirt-chaser instead of a tough professional. The potential for a media combat is, therefore, wasted.

The breezy tale takes a twist when Ajay and Ria come face to face with the ugly side of politics. The plot takes a serious turn when the two get caught in an ugly political battle between chief minister Mushran (Govind Namdeo) and opposition leader Ramakant Dua (Shakti Kapoor).

The gunning down of the businessman friend of a politician on election eve reveals the nexus between big money, cops and crafty politicians. The two TV reporters join hands to secure justice for the condemned 'terrorist' and get his real story on tape.

Shahrukh is good as a cunning reporter but his role is not very well written. Juhi Chawla looks beautiful.

The film has good songs, which is one of the highlights of the movie.

The movie should attract lot of audience. But it is certainly not one of Shahrukh’s best films
