No Entry review
'No Entry' Fun and LaughterBy Nitika DesaiFilm critic, ApunKaChoice.Com Anees Bazmee’s movie ‘No Entry’ is a total fun and laughter film with good situational humor and equally hilarious performances by its star cast. Although the movie’s subject of three cheating husbands looking for some fun outside their marriages may seem a tad similar to the story of last year’s hit Masti, there are many differences that set the two films apart. For one, ‘No Entry’ has no double entendres. Therefore, it has appeal for a wider audience. Coming
The film tells the story of three men. Kishen (Anil Kapoor) is a faithful husband who has a very suspicious wife Kaajal (Lara Dutta). Prem (Salman Khan) is a total flirt or a married bachelor who has a very trusting and gullible wife Pooja (Esha Deol). Sunny (Fardeen Khan) is somewhere in between. He is in relationship with Sanjana (Celina Jaitley) who has her own conditions. It is Prem, the married bachelor, who prods his henpecked friends into having some fun outside their marriages. His idea of fun is the sexy club dancer Bobby (Bipasha Basu), the very sight of whom can remind a man of his manliness. Bobby is the ‘forbidden fruit’ that many men – married or not – won’t be able to resist. And when this sexy siren sets out to seduce the loyal-to-wife Kishen, it leads to a spate of hilarious situations in which both Kishen and Sunny have to weave a cobweb of lies to conceal their extra-marital misadventure. ‘No Entry’ gives you paisa vasool entertainment. It has all the ingredients that go into making a successful commercial entertainer – it has star value, funny story, mushy romance, good dose of comedy, and a bit of titillation (courtesy Bipasha). Several sequences in the movie abound with good humor – for instance, the sequence when Lara suspects her husband (Anil) of hitting on the maid. Or Fardeen’s ‘suicide point’ scene, or the post-interval sequence of marriage between Fardeen and Celina. The first half of the movie sets the ground for the real crazy comedy of confusion and chaos in the latter part. And the conclusion to the story is befitting. ‘No Entry’ rests strongly on performances by Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan. Although Salman is conspicuously missing in the most part of the second half of the movie, his cool-dude-adulterous-husband act does look funny and entertaining. Anil Kapoor is truly the hero of this movie. Last week, we saw him in a serious role of a frazzled man in ‘My Wife’s Murder’. This week, he takes an about turn and shows his comic flair. Anil’s timing of comedy is exceptionally fine. Just his facial reactions can sometimes evoke laughter. Fardeen Khan’s performance is not without hamming. The actor doesn’t seem to deliver his lines without inhibition. Even his comic range is limited. Lara Dutta is truly a revelation of this film as far as comedy is concerned. She had a not-so-comic role to play in Masti. But in ‘No Entry’, her suspicious wife act leaves you in splits at many places. Esha Deol has a marginal role except at the movie’s fag end. Celina Jaitley shows glimmers of good acting. All in all, ‘No Entry’ is a movie full of vim and vigour. It regales you, makes you laugh and sends you back home with broad smiles on your face.
