'Lucky – No Time For Love' Love sprouts amidst terror

Love sprouts amidst terror, but has little time to blossom when a sudden twist of fate brings together the two leading characters of ‘Lucky’. What unfolds is a touching love story against the backdrop of a visually enthralling setting – a scenic Russia in the times of terror and death.

Lucky is the name of the film’s female protagonist, or rather the schoolgirl whose wish (that her exam be cancelled) comes true in a most nightmarish way. Escaping from a roguish character, she breaks in into our hero Aditya’s much-cherished Volkswagen. And from then on begins the Lucky ride.

When

Aditya comes to know of the unexpected intruder in his car, he is at loss. He is surprised and at the same time angry for the damage done to his car. But the big-biceped hero mellows in front of the delicate, shy and vulnerable Lucky, the teeny weeny creature in the rear of his automobile, and he laughs at his own luck as she tells him her name.

This marks the beginning of a love story that will be tested under the gravity of many life-threatening situations. Seeds of love between Lucky and Aditya are sown in the cemetery where they share many subtly romantic moments. But then the ordeal begins. Terror takes over and the lives of our leading characters appear on the brink just when it had found love.

Debutant Sneha Ullal is perfectly cast in the role of an eighteen-year-old schoolgirl. She has the required vulnerability, coyness and delicacy that befit her character Lucky. She has a photogenic face that more than often wears a bland expression rather than the pretension of a beauty queen.

Thanks to the setting of the movie (chilly Russian winter), we are spared from seeing Salman minus his shirt. If we overlook his limited repertory of facial reactions, Salman does make an impact but not in his romantic moments with Sneha, but in the moments when the integrity of his character is tested in threatening situations.

Mithun Chakraborty brings a slight cheer to the audience’s faces everytime he springs up in the movie at the right time and right place of the story.

‘Lucky’ marks a noteworthy directorial debut by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru. The duo is competent in the craft of filmmaking, but has to spruce up their writing skills. The script saps out of life and vitality of a love story many times. But the movie does pick up in the latter half when the going-on becomes more gripping.

All in all, ‘Lucky – No Time For Love’ is worth a watch. And particularly for those people who wished to see Salman and Ash together on the big screen again. If not the real thing, her lookalike will do!
