'Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai' Romantic Mismatches

By Nitika Desai

Love is a strange, indescribable phenomenon. One can never be sure when the Cupid's arrow will strike. In a wink of an eye, love can happen and change your convictions about your feelings for a person. This is the central theme of director Deepak Ramsays' first movie Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai.

The movie tells the story of two mismatched couples who believe that they are not in love with the partner they are engaged with.

Actor

Priyanshu Chatterji plays Raj, the pampered son of a billionaire (Kader Khan). Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Raj never had to keep his nose to the grindstone. His carefree and reckless lifestyle worries his parents. As a solution, Raj's mother gets him engaged to Simran (Dia Mirza), who studies in Dubai.

Simran too is the daughter of a rich NRI. A happy-go-lucky girl, Simran believes in taking life as it comes. Circumstances bring her face-to-face with Sameer (Rakesh Bapat), an aspiring singer who comes to Dubai for entertainment shows. Sameer's charm, flamboyance and humor sweep Simran off her feet. She finds herself falling for him.

Back home in Mumbai, Raj is drawn towards his kid sister Soni's female tutor Asha (Neha), a simple girl with strong Indian values. He is sure Asha is the right girl for him.

We know that Raj and Simran are engaged. But it turns out that Sameer and Asha too are engaged. It is a classic case of mismatches. So, Raj and Simran come up with an easy solution - create a rift between Sameer and Asha so that they can marry partners of their choice.

Raj and Simran succeed. They part ways never to meet again. But, as pointed out in the beginning, love is a strange phenomenon. After their separation, Raj and Simran realize that deep down they love each other. What happens next? How do Raj and Simran meet again? These questions form the conclusion of the story.

Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai does not really have a bad story. What is missing is the onscreen chemistry between the two pairs.

Priyanshu Chatterji tries hard to look comfortable in the role he plays, but only outwardly. He sounds superficial in his dialogue delivery. Dia Mirza is much better in expressing emotions of her character. Rakesh Bapat has immature looks and is oddly cast in a role that required a skilled performer. Neha exudes natural warmth and suits her character quite well.

In short, Koi Mere Dil Mein Hai fails to pull any chords at viewers' heart because it lacks a good script and convincing performances. The songs in the movie are only speed breakers in the story.
