'Anukokunda Oka Roju' Anukokunda Oka Roju

A new trend seems to be emerging in Tollywood. It is a halting effort. But it augurs well for Telugu cinema. A prominent member of this 'reformist bandwagon' is director Chandrasekhar Yeleti.

Yeleti's latest film Anukokunda Oka Roju is a laudable effort, though it is no patch on his maiden movie, Aithe. The shot-making Yeleti displayed in Aithe is intact. But the effort is, to a considerable extent, marred by a weak story. If only the script were more taut, Anukokunda would have become a better film.

The

story is about a promising chorus singer Sahasna (Charmy) who chances her way into a booze and drugs party. In her exuberance, Sahasna takes drugs, unwittingly. And that proves her undoing. She does not know what actually happened on that fateful night as she was under the influence of drugs.

Consequently, people whom she had not met earlier keep butting into her life. Among them are a taxi driver (Shashank). Sahasna is scared stiff and senses danger to her life.

Then enters her saviour in the form of a cop (Jagapathy Babu) who is out to investigate the whole incident.

How he unravels the truth and how Sahasna reconciles herself to the reality forms the remainder of the movie, which is doing well at the box office.

There are irritants galore in the film. For instance, Anukokunda could have done without the antics of the tantric in the end.

Besides, music is a spoilsport though composer Keeravani has come up with good tunes. Even the background music is impressive. But the songs detract from the main theme, and impede the buildup of the tempo. The director should have been more careful of this aspect. He has not done that and the result shows the harmful effect of the costly oversight. Cinematographer Sarvesh Murari has done a great job. Technically, the film is of the top order.

In the acting department, Charmy leads the pack with an impressive performance. Not far behind is Shashank. And Jagapathy Babu's investigator cop is, as usual, in his elements. On the whole, Anukokunda, a welcome addition to the small budget movies genre, is watchable.
