Udayon is one film Malayalam megastar Mohanlal is looking forward to with great expectations. One can understand the anxieties of the mega star. After all, things have not exactly been hunky dory for him in 2005.
Apart from Udayananu Taram, Mohanlal has nothing to flaunt by way of a hit, unlike his rival, Mammootty, who is going great guns even this year. Chandrolsavam which followed Udayananu Taram proved a damp squib. So, it must be with a certain amount of trepidation that Mohanlal is awaiting the release
of Udayon.
The film, in which Mohanlal is playing the father and son duo, is directed by Bhadran. Incidentally, the Bhadran-Mohanlal team delivered a superhit, Spadigam a few years ago. No wonder, there is buzz in film circles that Udayon is a sequel to Spadigam.
The 70-year-old Sooranadu Kunju (played by Mohanlal) is known for his passion for land. He will do just anything to acquire land. Needless to say, this trait lands him in trouble and pits him against his own family members. The old man adds to the anger of his children by getting married at the age of 70!
On the other hand, son, Pappoyi (again played by Mohanlal) is a do gooder and opposes his father's wrongdoings in the name of acquiring land. Kannada actress Laya plays a nurse who falls in love with the younger Mohanlal.
A highlight of the film is that Bollywood actor Nana Patekar plays Perumal, who takes on the old Mohanlal.
Others in the cast are Sukanya, Manoj K Jayan, Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar and Kalabhavan Mani.
While veteran Ramachandra Babu handles the camera, Ouseppachen composes music for the film, which is scheduled for release in early August. The producer of the film is Subhair.
