Pyaar Mein Twist review
'Pyaar Mein Twist' A mature love storyBy Aparajita GhoshFilm critic, ApunKaChoice.Com After having seen countless youthful love stories, watching a mature love story like Pyaar Mein Twist is like a whiff of fresh air. And when the movie marks the coming of Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia back on screen together after a long time (since ‘Saagar’), one can rest assured of quality entertainment. And Pyaar Mein Twist lives up to these expectations. The movie, directed by Hriday Shetty (who previously directed a lackluster ‘Plan’), tells the story of two middle-aged people who get into a relationship of compatibility and understanding to spend rest of their lives together. But in doing so, they invite scorn from all quarters –mostly from their own kids. The
Dimple plays Sheetal Arya, a superwoman who manages her family, business and her children effortlessly. She is a doting mom, an understanding mom-in-law, and an intelligent businesswoman. Everything is normal until she meets industrialist Yash Khurana (Rishi Kapoor). Their meetings begin on an antagonistic note, but soon their enmity transmutes into affection, caring and eventually into love. The duo’s children are absolutely shocked and taken aback to find that their parents have fallen in love at this age. Sheetal’s daughter (Soha) voices her strong opposition to this relationship, although her boyfriend (Sammir) tacitly supports Sheetal’s decision. Sheetal’s outspoken sister-in-law (Farida Jalal) is the one who comes in her support. And then, much to everyone’s surprise, the old couple elope. While they get to know each other well during this time, their families too reflect upon their strains within. Although the conclusion to the story is predictable, the way it is brought about leaves you with a glowing heart. The chemistry between Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia still hasn’t waned after all these years. The two actors look immensely comfortable with each other. It is this chemistry that makes their characters Sheetal and Yash believable. The way she keeps admiring his buttons, how he searches for precise words to express his feelings to her and how he dozes off whenever he makes his advances towards her – all this make the movie worth watching. For a bit of nostalgia there is also elopement (just like in ‘Bobby’) in the latter half of the movie. And then there is the song Khullam Khulla Pyar Karenge from Rishi’s own movie Khel. It must be mentioned that to see the white-bearded Rishi singing this song would convince you that the actor may have aged in body, but in his heart and mind he still is very youthful and buoyant. In the marginal roles, Farida Jalal makes an impact. Soha Ali Khan looks cute, sheds a few tears and shows a few glimmers of good acting, while Sammir Dattani is absolutely flat-faced and expressionless. Vikas Bhalla gets his minutes of histrionics to show his acting skills. But he overdoes it. In short, it is heartening to see Hriday Shetty making a movie on such an offbeat subject as this one. The basic theme of the movie is that the elders too can have their lives beyond their children and family. The love between Rishi and Dimple is not an emotion of physical desires, but a longing to find a soulmate. Recommended. Copyright 2005 ApunKaChoice.com. All rights reserved. |
