'Balram Vs Tara Das'‘Balram Vs Tara Das’ is a prestigious project featuring Malayalam megastar Mammootty . Actually, it is a combination of two of Mammootty's earlier films, ‘Inspector Balram’ and ‘Athiraathram’ directed by IV Sasi.In ‘Inspector Balram’, Mammootty played a no-nonsense inspector out to get the baddies, while in ‘Athiraathram’ he was a small-time smuggler. In ‘Balram Taradas’, again directed by veteran IV Sasi, Inspector Balram has become a Deputy Superintendent of Police. And Tara Das is now an
Bollywood beauty Katrina Kaif plays actress Supriya, the girlfriend of Tara Das. Shades of the Abu Salem - Monica Bedi duo here. During the construction of a college, the police stumble upon a big cache of arms. Investigations lead the trail to Tara Das and Supriya. The latter is arrested. Tara Das flies in from Dubai setting the stage for a war of nerves between the police officer and the underworld don. Mammootty plays double roles in ‘Balram vs. Tara Das’ as the police officer and the smuggler. Katrina Kaif makes her maiden appearance in a Malayalam film. Others in the cast: Siddique, Mukesh, Jadish, Kunjakko Bobban, Rajmohan Unnithan, Sreenivasan, Rajan P Dev, Devan, Riza Bava, Vani Viswanath and Kalpana. Incidentally, director IV Sasi and Mammootty are coming together after a gap of 14 years. Some of their memorable films include ‘Aksharangal’, ‘Athiraathram’, ‘Aalkoottathil Thaniye’, ‘Vaartha’, ‘Mrugaya’, and ‘Inspector Balram’. Story, script and dialogue are by T. Damodaran and S.N. Swamy. Sajeev Shankar handles the camera while Jazzy Gift composes music. Lyrics have been penned by Kaithapram. The film is slated for release on March 17. |
