'Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee' -Timepass

Vikram Bhatt’s movie ‘Life Mein Kabhie Kabhiee’ is the story of over ambitious youths who set out on their individual paths to achieve happiness in life.

After a fairly lacklustre Red , Vikram Bhatt tries a different genre in ‘LMKK’, which the filmmaker claims is his most original movie till date. The movie starts off as a breezy, light-hearted entertainer but becomes a tad too grim in the second half. However, the presence of small stars and new faces lends freshness to the film and makes it a timepass watch.

The

film features Aftab Shivdasani , Dino Morea , Nauheed Cyrusi , Sammir Dattani and newcomer Anjori Alagh in main roles.

Raveev (Dino), Manish (Aftab), Mona (Nauheed), Jai (Sammir) and Ishita (Anjori) are five friends who have freshly graduated out of college. They get drunk and begin philosophizing about what lays ahead for them in life. All of them want to be happy in life. But they have their own ideas of happiness and how they can attain it.

The five place a bet in which whoever turns out happiest in life after five years will win.
Rajeev is a cocksure youth who wants to be a successful businessman.

Mona wants to be the top actress in Bollywood.

Jai wants to have power and make his name in politics.

Ishita believes money can bring her all the happiness in life.

Manish is the most simple of the lot.

The five stories run parallel to each other. Rajeev throws his conscience into the dustbin and tries to crack a big business deal by hook or crook. This annoys his upright brother (Mohnish Behl).

Mona, too, wants to take the quick lane to fame. She cheats on her committed boyfriend and flirts with a hero to get big roles in films.

Jai makes his place in a political party by his conviction and some underhand tactics.

Ishita gets married to a rich guy hoping to be happy in a financially secure life.

Manish falls in love with a girl (Koel Purie), marries her, and starts a family.

As the four over-ambitious of the quintet (save Manish) go about achieving their aims, they find that happiness remains as elusive as it was years back. On top of it, now they have to grapple with their guilt.

The basic story idea of LMKK is quite interesting. And the film sails smoothly in the first half. However, in the second half, things become serious and melodramatic, and the movie begins to resemble a TV soap opera. There are lofty dialogues, loud and dramatic background music, ruffled egos, repentant hearts, and finally, a realization.

The performances by some actors are quite decent. Aftab Shivdasani and Dino Morea stand out of the lot. Aftab looks completely convincing as the simple, gullible lad. Dino oozes a natural charm and suave of a confident man. Nauheed Cyrusi brings out a fine mix of glamour and emotions in her character. Anjori Alagh just about manages not to ham (not bad considering this is her debut) and Sammir Dattani tries desperately to bring intensity into his role by casting brooding glances.

LMKK works in patches. Vikram Bhatt has made a fair enough attempt to tell a different story. The film gives a simple message that happiness is not achieved by lofty goals. It is how you strive towards your goal that brings you happiness.

Not bad for a watch.

Rating: **1/2
