Krrish - Review - Songs - News
View the Krrish picture gallery Read the Krrish movie review Album Review Simple Melodies By Aparajita Ghosh The music and songs of Rakesh Roshan’s forthcoming movie Krrish have simple, lilting melodies, with minimal techno intrusion. The songs are full of soothing rhythms and feel-good musical arrangements that are typical of the style of Rajesh Roshan, the younger brother of Rakesh Roshan . The movie, one of the most-awaited films of this year, has Hrithik Roshan playing a superhero-like character named Krrish. Much to the tickling of a moviegoer’s curiosity, the promos of the movie show Hrithik in two contrastingly different images – that of a villager and that of a superhero dressed almost like Neo of ‘The Matrix’. Priyanka Chopra is the movie’s heroine. Rekha plays Hrithik’s grandmother, while Preity Zinta makes a cameo appearance in the film. The opening song Pyar Ki Ek Kahani is a gentle paced romantic number written by Ibraheem Ashq and sung by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. Shreya’s vocal skills are fine but her voice has a slight shrill. Sonu Nigam is saccharine sweet as ever. Not to detract anything from Rajesh Roshan’s composition, but the melody of this song sounds like it has been heard before. Koi Tumsa Nahin is an old-fashioned composition based on an ear catchy melody and poetic lyrics by Nasir Faraaz. The song is a romantic duet by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghoshal. A liberal use of flute and light drums makes this number a smooth sail. The remix of this song, called Big Band mix, is like a pepped up version of the original, with the use of piano, guitar and saxophone. Chori Chori Chupke Chupke literally transports you in the mountainous hills and valleys. The song, perhaps loosely based on raga Pahadi, is a very soothing composition with simple lyrics from Nasir Faraaz. But singer Udit Narayan’s pretentiously sweet voice fails to infuse a genuine emotion into this number. Shreya Ghoshal just about makes up for the damage done by Narayan. Main Hoon Wo Aasmaan is more like an experimental number with a very gentle pace and a haunting mix of western orchestra with Rafaqat Ali Khan’s vocals. The song, sort of an ode to the superhero Krrish, is pretty plain in the first hearing. Rafaqat begins the song very slowly and then adds a little verve when Alka Yagnik joins in. A perky remix of the song appears under the strange title 'A Mystic Love Mix', a fusion track with a heady mix of western instruments with Hindustani alaap. The album then nudges into the lively mood with Dil Na Diya, a typical dance track that, in all likelihood, is going to be a signature number for showcasing Hrithik’s dance and gymnastic skills on the screen. Kunal Ganjawala renders the song spiritedly. All in all, the songs of ‘Krrish’ are no great shakes. They are plain and soothing melodies that perhaps require repeated hearings to grow a liking for them.
