Taare Zameen Par - Review - Songs - News
View the Taare Zameen Par picture gallery Read the Taare Zameen Par movie review Album Review -Superb Songs By Aparajita Ghosh Here is a music album that brings a whiff of freshness in these times of musical decadence. Produced and directed by Aamir Khan, ‘Taare Zameen Par’ is about a dyslexic child who is scorned by everyone because of his mental inability to grasp things. However, life changes for him with the coming of an arts teacher. The film’s songs are musically lilting and lyrically rich. Shankar Ehsaan Loy are the composers while Prasoon Joshi is the lyricist. The title song “Taare Zameen Par” begins with soothing notes of xylophone, almost resembling a jingle. The first thing that strikes you about this song is words by Prasoon Joshi and vocals by Shankar Mahadevan. As the song picks up the pace, we hear instruments like santoor and tabla. With chorus by Bugs Bhargava, Dominique Cerejo, Vivinenne Pocha, the title song marks a perfect and heart-warming start to the album. The main riff of “Kholo Kholo” is extremely infectious. The guitar, the vocals (by Raman Mahadevan) and the chord progressions make this song one of the best in the album. Raman’s slightly staccato-styled rendition and the crispy guitar notes blend together beautifully to convey the philosophy of the little ones reaching out to the sky. Aamir Khan impresses with his tongue-twisting gibberish in the beginning of “Bum Bum Bole”, which is a kids’ song, brimming with masti and carefree attitude of childhood. Shaan takes over and sings the song with carefree abandon. Prasoon’s lyrics are full of visual imagery typical of a child’s mind. A fun song all the way. “Jame Raho” begins with the sound of an alarm clock. It is a soft rock number about different kinds of kids – the naughty, the obedient, the dreamers and the strugglers. Vishal Dadlani does a fine job on the microphone. “Maa” is an extremely emotional number sung from the point of view of a child addressing his mother. The song’s music is captivating, with tender guitar notes, gentle drums and impressive singing by Shankar Mahadevan. Prasoon Joshi pens words that reflect the insecurities and confessions of a child sent away from his home. Jarring sound of electric guitar takes you by surprise in “Bheja Kum”, sung from the perspective of angry and derisive teachers who mock little kids for their lack of intelligence. The motley crew of singers renders the song voraciously and venomously to the required effect. “Mera Jahan” begins with the tremulous singing of a kid yearning to be free. A slow-paced song, featuring a kids’ chorus group called Gleehive with singers Adnan Sami and Auriel Cordo, this song is about spreading one’s wings and reaching out for the stars. Words like Udne ko sau pankh diye hain, chadhne ko khula aasman reflect the immense possibilities of an impressionable mind. The album concludes with the instrumental “Ishaan’s Theme” by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. This piece on piano is full of many emotions. A perfect end to a fabulous album. There is no denying, the music of ‘Taare Zameen Par’ is the best score to have come out of Bollywood this year. It is a must-hear for any lover for good music. An incredible album!
