Singh Is Kinng - Review - Songs - News
View the Singh Is Kinng picture gallery Read the Singh Is Kinng movie review Album Review -Balle Balle By Nikhil Kumar Oye, Balle Balle, Shava Shava. Blow the whistles, stretch your hands and do the one-legged Bhangra. The music of ‘Singh Is Kinng’ prompts you to do the Punjabi jig even if you happen to be completely alien to the culture. Be it Snoop Dogg crooning his characteristic rap to Punjabi beats, or Daler Mehendi rendering the boliyaan in a no-holds-barred spirit, the compositions of ‘Singh Is Kinng’ by Pritam get you hooked to their sheer energy, vim and vigour. However, the remixed versions of the song seem just mandatory. At the very beginning Snoop D O double G wins you over with his well-rhymed rapping in the title song ‘Singh Is Kinng’, completely overshadowing the RDB act. The most outstanding is Dogg’s lyrics, like: “Watch me zoom by, make it boom by, what’s up to all the ladies hanging out in Mumbai, cheese makes dollars east-west masala, Singh is the Kinng so you all have to follaw.” Akshay Kumar chips in between with his own brand of Punjabi rap. A full-on fundu track, this one. Singer Labh Janjua wins you over in ‘Jee Karda’, a Bhangra-rap track with some groovy rapping by Suzi Q. It’s a peppy number with hummable lyrics and melody. The remix version of the song has nothing to rave about. The upbeat mood set by the first two songs continue with ‘Bas Ek King’, sung by Neeraj Shridhar, Mika Singh, Hard Kaur, Ashish Pandey. The song is more an Rn’B track than a full-on Bhangra number. Hard Kaur’s sassy vocals, Mika’s nasal twang, and Ashish’s soft voice gel well with Neeraj’s baritone to give this song a feisty flavour. After some east-west musical mumbo-jumbo, it’s time for desi boliyaan in ‘Bhootni Ke’, sung rapaciously by Daler Mehendi. The song’s lyrics are quite traditional in Punjabi culture and can often be heard at wedding celebrations. But its Mehendi’s powerful rendition of them combined with thumping dhols that make this song a delight to ears. It’s remix version by Mika doesn’t come anyway close to Mehendi’s track. Enough hopping and jiving done, its time for something romantic as the album makes an unexpected mood swing with ‘Teri Ore’ Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Shreya Ghoshal. And lastly, ‘Talli Hua’ is a song for the bottle-hitters. An average composition with its own drunk twists and turns, this song works solely because of Labh Janjua’s vocals. As for the remixes, they are simply pepped up versions of the originals with an added beat or note here and there.
