Album Review
Nothing Exceptional
By Usha Lakra

The music of ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ is kind of not-so-good and not-so-bad, falling in the category of movies like ‘Tara Rum Pum’, ‘Tashan’ , ‘Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic’ by Yashraj Films.

Vishal-Shekhar have done an average work in this Yashraj flick. The movie has ordinary scores with only ‘Ahista Ahista’ scoring high amongst the other songs. The piece is remarkably good with a soothing tune sung by Shreya Goshal (has to be) and Lucky Ali coming back after a long time. The song is a bit experimental with the use of percussion and electronic sounds.

The original Kishore Da song ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ is simply remixed and does no justice to the original number. If you are the fan of original version then you can easily give this song a miss. Vishal Dadlani should forbid himself singing in that constipated tone and Sumit Kumar, too, simply renders the song. Nothing exceptional.

‘Khuda Jane’ is a romantic number but not so mesmerizing. Kay Kay has proved his caliber again with Shilpa Rao’s beautiful rendition. The song is already a craze among the youth and it’s remix by Abhijit Nalani is a nice disc track with no special variations.

‘Lucky boy’ and ‘Small-Time Girl’ are hinglish numbers following the same vein as most of the contemporary Bollywood numbers. ‘Lucky boy’, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa runner up Raja Hassan, is again a typical number like the songs in ‘Tashan’. Raja Hassan doesn’t get much chance to explore in this song whereas Sunidhi dominates the whole track. ‘Small Time Girl’ with Shankar Mahadevan is a funky number on the same pitch as the ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ track, while the picturization is similar to ‘Pretty Woman’ from ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’.

‘Jogi Mahi’ is again a repetitive number on the lines of typical Punjabi- wedding songs with a dash of hip-hop bhangra. But a good score from Shekhar Ravjiani and well sung by Sukhwinder Singh and Himani Kapoor.

Siddharth Anand and Vishal-Shekhar fail to weave the magic of their past films in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’. The album has two romantic numbers doing well on the charts. But overall, its music lacks the intensity to pull the numbers for long run.
