Album Review

Sanjay Gadhvi’s new offering ‘Kidnap’ is an action thriller with Sanjay Dutt, Imran Khan and Minissha Lamba.

The album features Pritam as music director. And trying their hands on music for the first time are lyricists Sandeep and Sanjeev Vyas. Other lyricist is Mayur Puri, who has penned lyrics for movies like ‘Partner’ and was dialogue writer of ‘Om Shanti Om’.

The duo of Sanjay Gadhvi and Pritam has given two smashing hits ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’. But ‘Kidnap’ is not as stylish a movie, instead it is an intense subject, thus the scope of music lessens.

The first track ‘Haan ji’, sung by Adnan Sami and picturised on Sanjay Dutt, is an ordinary track, not that impressive with a touch of Arabic music. The use of rap is a common thing nowadays. This track too features rap in between, not doing much for the song. Lyrics are mediocre with usage of common words.

The next song is a mesmerizing number ‘Mausam’ sung by Shreya Ghosal. The melody will remind you of a bit of ‘Shik Dum Shik Dum’ song from ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Halka Halka Sa’ from ‘Chocolate’. Lyrics are again very ordinary - ‘Mausam yeh awesome bada…’.

Then comes the most highlighted song ‘Hey Ya’ or ‘S for Soniya’. Minissha Lamba is looking ravishing and so is the song in the seductive voice of Suzi Q. A peppy one, with nice lyrics scoring high for listeners as well as viewers.

Next is the remix of ‘Hey Ya’- a foot-tapping number good for disc goers and Dj’s, keeping the originality of the song intact without much distortion.

‘Meri Ek Ada Shola’ is a track which gives the impression of a song-for-the-sake-of-song syndrome. If there is a scene of club there has to be a song picturized on a club dancer. Same is the case with this song though it is sung well by the combo of Sukhwinder Singh, Akriti Kakkar and Sunidhi Chauhan.

The song ‘Mit Jaye’ is the last song of the album. This track is used for publicity which is quite apt, as it shows Imran in a rugged look with angst-filled eyes. The song focuses on the emotions of Imran and has a brooding effect. The number is written and sung by Sandeep Vyas and composed by Sandeep and Sanjeev Vyas. A song made exclusively for the movie’s promotion keeping the theme in mind.

Next is the remix version of ‘Mit Jaye’ – a rocking fast number.

On the whole, the album is okay. As said before, it’s not a romantic or a family movie which can feature many songs. For the listeners ‘Hey Ya’ will enchant them, it’s already on the chartbusters, and ‘Mit Jaye’ sticks in your mind. ‘Mausam’ can also click ,if promoted properly.

Don’t expect great music.
