Chandni Chowk To China - Review - Songs - News
Album Review - Musical Hodgepodge By Usha Lakra Here is the film which has kept the movie buffs waiting. With Akshay Kumar at its helm, and Deepika Padukone in tow, you expect not just a riveting entertainer, but also a movie with melodious tracks. Alas, your expectations are dashed. Boasting of a huge ensemble of composers including Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Kailash-Paresh-Naresh, Bappi Lahiri-Bappa Lahiri and Bohemia, the album of ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ turns out to be a broth spoiled by too many cooks. Lyrics are by Rajat Arora, Shaily Shailender, Kailash Kher and Bohemia. SIDHU This track has a very Indian feel to it or you can say a very North Indian feel. Music by Kailash-Paresh-Naresh makes this song sound very funny which is like a ballad based on of the character of Siddhu, played by Akshay Kumar. The song, vocalized and written by Kailash himself in quite effortless manner, is fine and is extensively used for promotions, but will lose its charm gradually. Chandni Chowk To China This song is rendered by the energy-packed trio of Neeraj Shridhar, Anushka Manchanda and Shankar Mahadevan. Again keeping with the mood of the movie, this track is also an entertaining one. Lyrics are well written by Rajat Arora. The music is a blend of western, Chinese and Bollywood kinda music. Nothing exceptional about this title track, but the way singers have rendered it is experimental and stylish. The remix version by DJ Amyth is passable. CC2C This other version of ‘Chandni Chowk To China’ song is sung by Akshay Kumar and Bohemia. The music is a fusion of rap, filmi music with a dab of western pop. And one thing you will fall in love with is Akshay Kumar rapping for himself, just like in ‘Singh Is Kinng’. The star has a potential behind the mike as well. Tere Naina This one is the only melodious song in the album. Created by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the track is rendered by Shankar Mahadevan and versatile melody queen Shreya Ghosal. It ushers freshness amidst rustic-cum-folk numbers. The music directors have given a Chinese touch to soft music. Lyrics are subtle and simple. This song, like many soft numbers, will mesmerize the audiences. You can play this track in repeat mode. India se aya tera dost A song which has the same melody as ‘Bambai se aya mera dost’ but a few changes in the lyrics, this number has the father-son duo of Bappi and Bappa Lahiri crooning together, unimpressively though. Chak Lein De Another Kailash Kher song in Punjabi for the robust masses with a feel of rebellion. This track appears pure situational and is composed by Kailash-Paresh-Naresh, penned by Kailash himself for the second time, with remarkable and realistic lines like - ‘Tu khud hi teri fauj, khud hi toli’. The remix version is more rhythmic with little experiment in sound effects. The album, as mentioned earlier, has a rustic, grounded feel to it, with exceptional ‘Tere Naina’, thanks to Shankar-Ehsan-Loy for giving variety to the album. It seems that the whole album is created keeping Akshay in mind, though Kailash Kher offers some non-Bollywood music. On the whole, a very average album.
