Album Review
-Aao Twist Karein
By Usha Lakra

Imtiaz Ali and Pritam are back with another hit album, ‘Love Aaj Kal’. Well, for every Imtiaz film, music plays a very crucial role. Take ‘Socha Na Tha’ or ‘Jab We Met’, music itself is a character in these films. As a director he manages to get unforgettable melodies that linger in the minds of the listeners.

Pritam as musician and Irshad Kamil as lyricist, Saif has kept everything the same as ‘Jab We Met’. ‘Love Aaj Kal’, Saif Ali Khan’s maiden production, is touted as a youthful vibrant movie, so is its music, with not a single dull moment to it. The album offers you seven original tracks and three remixes.

Aahun Aahun
This old Punjabi track “Kadi Te Hass Bol Ve” is re-arranged and given a ‘Love Aaj Kal’ tadka. The song has a distinctive feel to it because of the mixture. “Kadi Te Hass Bol Ve” part is sung by Salim while ‘Aahun-Aahun’ is in the voice of Neeraj Sridhar. Indeed a compelling number. Its remix version Aahun Aahun remix is a pacy track.

Twist
With And we twist, the album gives you another pleasant jolt. This track has all what it takes to top the chartbusters list. The ‘Nagin’ tune from Man Dole Mera Tan Dole, the hit song of the 60s, gets a Generation Z twist. The song, crooned by Neeraj Sridhar of Bombay Vikings, is the first track of the film to be on air and has become an instant hit. Twist remix also makes for an impressive hearing and will rule the discs in coming days.

Chor Bazari
The upbeat mood continues with the song Chor Bazari, which is again a peppy number with a catchy riff. Undoubtedly it’s an adorable track in the vocals of Neeraj Sridhar (again) and Sunidhi Chauhan. The song makes an impact with its percussion. Chor Bazari remix is an okay version of the song with added English lyrics.

Yeh Dooriyan
Mohit Chauhan gets the chance to rekindle the “Tum Se Hi” magic with this track. Yeh Dooriyan has a very striking start and after three mast velocity numbers, this track soothes your mind. The lyrics describe the longing for the beloved and the song has the same feel as ‘Tum Se Hi’. Must say the hangover of ‘Jab We Met’ is not yet over.

Ajj Din Chadheya
Another Punjabi Track in the album and a soulful rendition by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. This track adds subtlety to the album. Though Rahat sings this song, it’s not a sufi number and the use of western instruments for the music of the song makes it different. The song has Indian feel with western flavour to it.

Thoda Thoda Pyar
Sunidhi Chauhan gets to hold the mike for this track which is again soused in Punjabi folk. Not a remarkable track but definitely adds to the narrative.

Main Kya Hoon
Not a Punjabi track, Main Kya Hoon is by KK. This number serves as an intro song for Saif, who again gets to play a lover boy in his own film. Though KK’s vocals need a better song than this, he has done an honest job in delivering this number.

The album is a complete package, a full-on entertainer. One go and the songs will keep buzzing in your mind because of their rhythm and beats. The noticeable thing is that Punjabi music can’t let you down when it comes to a Bollywood flick. The album has four Punjabi songs.

The songs of ‘Love Aaj Kal’ can definitely pull you out from slumber and set your mood right. And then what else? We Twist!
