The magic in the music is missing

Abhishek Bachchan’s much-hyped debut in Refugee may have failed to do ‘jadoo’ at the box-office but it is still not finito for the guy.

For he has up his sleeve Vashu Bhagnani’s Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya co-starring the beautiful dame from the South, Keerty Reddy. Ismail Darbar’s music in the film has already pricked ears – particularly the title song Tera Jadoo and Qayamat Ho. Sameer’s lyrics, as usual, stay on the average.

Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya, the title song, is the best number Ismail Darbar has come up with in this package. Sonu Nigam doesn’t sound like his usual self and singer Chitra, too, has stood upto the mark.

Shankar Mahadevan shows his vocal skills to the hilt in Jo Ishq Ka Matlab Samjhega and Sameer, too, has come up with some meaningful lyrics.

Mujhe Pyar Karo has many twists and turns, and both the singers Alka Yagnik and Sonu Nigam’s vocals flow sinuously from low to high pitch. Sameer has come up with some sentimental lyrics in Aai Chand Teri Chandni that goes well with the soft and lilting music by Ismail. In fact, Ismail has taken care not to stifle his music with too many instruments – a trend that seems to have taken to the fancy of many music directors nowadays.

On the flipside, singer Babul Supriyo renders Chori Chori Chupke Chupke quite zealously to the accompaniment of harmonica and foot-stomping beats. The Indianness of sound is however retained in Qayamat Ho, a song eulogizing the beauty of the heroine (Keerty Reddy). The song` sung by Sonu Nigam and Kavita Krishnamoorti, is already climbing up the charts. Next number Agra Mein Hai Mashoor fails to make any impression, and the album closes with the instrumental version of the title song Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya.

Ismail Darbar tries to churn out something new in every project that he undertakes and this one, too, boasts of some good melodies. Songwriter Sameer, on the other hand, is having too many irons in the fire nowadays with every next album bearing his name as the lyricist. And that seems to have seeped the vigor and meaning out of his words.

In a nutshell, Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya is an easy- on- the- ear musical score that will slowly take on to the fancy of a listener.
