Album Review Aaghaaz: Un-melodically yours! By N K Deoshi
After the delectable musical scores of Refugee and Fiza, Anu Malik was riding high on the music scene and it looked like a bit of musical sense has finally trickled down into him.
His musical score for D. Rama Naidu's Aaghaaz however does away with such conjectures and shows clearly that the man has not been able to part with his old 'unharmonious' self.
With the exception of one or two songs the album is a pain on the ear. The opening song "Mann Tera Mera Mann" is quite hummable and its gentle crooning by Babul Supriyo and Alka Yagnik make it an easy listening. Equally tolerable is the title song "Aaghaaz Karo" which lags only because of Sameer's soppy lyrics.
Other songs like Sonu Nigam-Sunidhi Chauhan's "Dosti Ho Gayi Re" or Kumar Sanu-Alka Yagnik rendered "Dil Ko Pathar" are shorn of any sense and meaning. Not even the digital gimmickry of "Dil Dil Dil" makes any impression. The instrumental version of "Mann Tera Mera Mann" is just a space-filler.
While the movie starring Sunil Shetty, Sushmita Sen and Namrata Shirodkar is expected to go 70mm in coming weeks, its music has failed to create any buzz so far. It is just another inconsequential musical score from the Bollywood's brimming cauldron of kitsch. Sameer's lyrics tab more on slush than meaning. Melody in this score is conspicuous only by its absence.
