The music score of “Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein”, starring south Indian star Madhavan and debutante Diya Mirza, is rich in melodies that go easy on the ear and catch the listeners’ fancy instantly.
The film, a Vashu Bhagnani production, is directed by Gautham Menon. It is the Hindi remake of the South Indian hit ”Minnale”. Its music director Harris Jayaraj (also the composer of the music score for “Minnale”) is known in the south as an adept keyboard player who has worked with the likes of A.R. Rahman.
RHTDM’s music score has much in common with the compositions of the original flick. The film has many versions of the title song “RHTDM” but Sonu Nigam and the velvety-voiced Kavita Krishnamurty sing the one that stands out. There is also another version that has a Bhangra flavor and some spirited rendering by Sukhwinder Singh and petite singer Sunidhi Chauhan.
Harris seems to have drawn a lot of inspiration from music wizard AR. Rahman in “Bolo Bolo” which has indipopper Shaan scaling the highs and the lows of the octave. The song has a groovy beat and makes for good listening.
“Oh Mama Mama” by Sonu Nigam is a catchy number about Mumbai’s fast life while “Kaise Main Kahun Tujhse”, by Kay Kay, speaks of the hero’s dilemma whether or not to say those three famous words to his ladylove. The song passes muster anyway.
“Aaya Re Aaya”, sung by Priti and Pinki (of “Piya Piya” fame) is another peppy, foot-tapping number featuring some techno gadgetry and digitally synthesized beats. And the composer’s southern musical roots become apparent in “Zara Zara” and “Such Keh Raha Hai” both of which flaunt of South Indian flavor typical of Illayaraja’s music.
