Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta starrer ‘The Hero’ is a spy thriller directed by Anil Sharma (of Gadar fame). The film’s music by Uttam Singh is a mix of mushy melodies and folksy tunes that are likely to appeal to listeners after repeated hearing.
The highlight of the album is the song Dil Mein Hai Pyar, a folksy and melodious number beautifully rendered by Udit Narayan and Jaspinder Narula. The song is a romantic track with touchy lyrics and a catchy chorus. However, a listener’s endurance of the track will be tested as it has been repeated six times in the album.
Then follows a lackluster Tere Shehar Ka Kya Hai Naam which has a mushy theme but poor melody by composer Uttam Singh. Even singer Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik fail to impress with their bland rendition of the song.
Hariharan shows his vocal prowess in Tum Bhi Na Mano. The song, co-sung by Alka Yagnik, opens on a soothing note but slowly gains tempo. Lyrics too gel with the music of the song.
In Mast Nigahon Mein Udit Narayan and petite singer Sunidhi Chauhan get into sprightly mood and render the song with full gusto. While the lyrics of the song are average, the rhythm composed by Uttam Singh is uplifting.
Bhangra singer Sardool Sikandar and Jaspinder Narula share microphones for Mari Koyal Ne Aise Cook. The song is traditionally based and singers have done complete justice to the ear-catchy tune by Uttam Singh.
