The music of choreographer Farah Khan’s directorial debut Main Hoon Na has a delectable mix of melodies that are based on modern techno-based sounds and at the same time carry the age-old charm reminiscent of the tunes by R. D Burman.

Composed by Anu Malik, the music of the movie catches a listener’s fancy after just one hearing. Javed Akhtar’s lyrics are poetic, meaningful and sometimes carry deep meaning behind simple words.

The most interesting of the lot is the title song Main Hoon Na, a mellow number carrying the weight of emotions woven by Akhtar’s words. The song has been effectively rendered by Sonu Nigam and Shreya Goshal.

Then there is also an instrumental remix of the same song by Ranjit Barot. This track is mainly situational and will appear in the movie in several sequences in the background.

There is also a sad version of the title song sung by Abhijeet, who has been the voice behind many a Shah Rukh hits. The lyrics of the song paint a picture of a protagonist craving for love after being rejected by his own people.

The melody of the song Tumhe Jo Maine Dekha carries a nostalgic charm associated with the golden hits 70s. The song has been rendered in full spirit by Abhijeet, while Shreya Goshal just about manages to match his energy.

Then follows a lively number Chale Jaise Hawayein, an ear catching track about two people in love. Actress Vasundhara Das has done an excellent job at microphone along with Indipopper Kay Kay to infuse life into this song. Another specialty of this song is that it has been picturised in a single shot on the onscreen pair Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao.

'Ye Fizayein' is a feel-good number about living every moment of life to the fullest, finding true love and spreading love all over. Once again Kay Kay excels in bringing buoyancy to this number with his impressive singing that scales the lows and highs of octaves with remarkable agility.

KK, Anu Malik, Shreya Goshal and Sunidhi Chauhan share microphone for the fast number Gori Gori'. The highlight of the song is its foot-tapping beat that makes it irresistible for some to hit the dance floor.

And last but not the least is Tumse Milke Dil Ka Hai Jo Haal Kya Kare, a superb 'qawalli' fused well with the modern-day beats. The song is jointly rendered by Sonu Nigam and famous Sufi singers Aftab Sabri and Hashim Sabri.

The highpoint of the song will be more visible than audible because Farah has shot this number using vibrant florescent colors, imaginative choreography against the backdrop of a lavish set that had a pool with swans in it.

On the whole, the music of Main Hoon Na is a delight to those ears that have gotten bored of listening to same mushy and bland melodies from Bollywood flicks.
