Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha - Review - Songs - News
View the Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha picture gallery Read the Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha movie review Album Review By Nitika Desai The normal recipe of a Bollywood music album nowadays constitutes an expected variety from romantic numbers to foot tapping dance tracks. If you take the same recipe and ‘season’ it with a few soft and lilting songs, the end product will be something like the music of Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha. Atul Agnihotri, who is Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, has been working on this movie for quite some years and “has put his genuine labor into making it”, as Salman puts it. Perhaps, that is why Atul roped in two music directors to compose the movie’s songs – Himmesh Reshammiya and A R Rahman. The lyrics too are written by Mehboob and Samir. Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha is basically a love story with two heroines (Preity Zinta and Bhumika) and one hero (Salman). The majority of the songs of the album are in keeping with the subject. The album opens with the title song Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, which is composed by Rahman. This song stands as an apt example that if you have a good melody at the base, then you need not use many instruments or loud beats to create an impact. Rather, Rahman relies more on his singers Sujata Trivedi and Kamaal Khan to bring out the emotion of Mehboob’s words. The follows the mandatory ‘marriage’ number titled Bindiya Chamakne Lagi, sung quite finely by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. Composer Himmesh tries to bring out a little folksy touch in the music of the song, but with only half the success. Samir’s words are quite expected and trite. The album then nudges into romantic mood with Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik sharing the mike for Reshammiya-composed duet Yeh Dil To Mila Hai. A better comparison of the musical talents of Rahman and Reshammiya can be made after one has heard the instrumental version of the title song. The instrumental by Reshammiya is completely different from Rahman’s title song and shows the difference in the musical sensibilities of the two composers. Rahman’s mastery is also evident in the soft track Zindagi Hai Dua which is sung by five singers - Madhushree, Pamela Jain, Gayatri, Kartik and Raquib. The song is a heart-warming number about the beauty of life. Another song in which Rahman’s talent stands out is Jaane Bahara. The song’s strength is its ‘easy-on-the-ears’ melody and its impressive rendition by Sadhna Sargam and Kamaal Khan. As a musical album cannot be considered complete without a Bhangra track, so comes in the end the track ‘Go Balle Balle’ which bears the stamp of the foot-savviness typical of Reshammiya’s style. The song is sung by Alisha Chinoy and KK. On the whole, the music of Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha is no different from umpteen other musical scores of recent Bollywood flicks. But the album does leave some impression on a listeners mind, thanks to the compositions by Rahman.
