Distantly related to the Raj Kapoor dynasty (his father is cousins with Prithviraj Kapoor).

Has two daughters with second wife Sridevi, named after characters in his films: the eldest is named Jhanvi after the heroine in Judaai (1997), and the second is named Khushi after the heroine in Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai (2000).

Son of film producer Surinder Kapoor. Also has two younger brothers, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor.
