The oh-so-vivacious Madhuri Dixit continues to rule million of hearts with her lovely smile and gorgeous looks. The dancing queen of Indian cinema is an iconic figure whom the young actresses follow religiously. She married Dr. Sriram Nene, a cardiovascular surgeon based in Denver, in the year 1991 and got settled in the USA. She has two sons Arin (born in 2003) and Raayan (born in 2005).
Born in a Marathi Brahmin family to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit, Madhuri attended Divine Child High School and later studied in Mumbai University. She is an accomplished Kathak dancer which also helped her to give sterling dancing performances in her films like ‘Tezaab’, ‘Dil’, ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’ and several other hits.
Madhuri Dixit made her acting debut in film ‘Abodh’ (1984). After a few minor and supporting roles in movies like Dayavan and Vardi, she got the chance to work opposite Anil Kapoor in ‘Tezaab’ (1988) for which she received her first Filmfare nomination. She then starred in a number of films opposite Anil that includes ‘Ram Lakhan’ (1989), ‘Parinda’ (1989), ‘Tridev’ (1989), ‘Kishen Kanhaiya’ (1990).
In 1990, Madhuri Dixit starred in Indra Kumar's romantic-drama ‘Dil’ opposite Aamir Khan, by that time she had established herself as a terrific dancer and actress in the film industry with slew of hits. She played the role of Madhu Mehra, a rich and arrogant girl who falls in love and later leaves her house to marry. The film became one of the biggest grosser of the year and Madhuri's performance earned her the first Filmfare Best Actress Award of her career. Madhuri has won Filmfare Best Actress Award four times first of ‘Dil’ then ‘Beta’, ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ and ‘Dil Toh Pagal Hai’.
Madhuri also acted as muse for the famous Indian painter M.F. Husain. He made ‘Gaja Gamini’ with Madhuri in the year 2000. Madhuri later made a comeback with Yash Raj film ‘Aaja Nachle’ but the movie wasn’t that successful, however, she was showered with praises for her performance and dance.
In 2008, she was awarded the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award by the Government of India.
