Daler Mehandi Biography He is deemed as the harbinger of Bhangra culture in India. With his very first album ‘Bolo Ta Ra Ra’ (released in 1995), Daler Mehandi shot to fame and stomped his way to the throne of the ‘Badshah of Punjabi Pop’. Since then many Punjabi puttars came and went but none has been able to dethrone him so far.
His latest album ‘Ek Dana’ was in his words “an experiment” and had some real good vocal acrobatics by the ‘king himself’. The beautiful orchestration of music and the use of exotic musical instrument like rahbaab make it an album to reckon with.
At a very young age Daler moved away from home to train under Ustad Rahat Ali Khan at Gorakhpur. There, under his guru’s tutelage, he imbibed the Patiyala gharana style of Hindustani music.
Being a gifted singer that he was Daler’s understanding of music gave him the confidence to conceptualize his own style of Bhangra music, which largely accepted by masses. Moreover he also did playback singing for films like Mrityudata, Khauff and Arjun Pandit.
