Santosh Sivan is one of the few cinematographers who have made contributions towards enriching the visual vocabulary of Indian Cinema.
Having made waves at international film festivals with his much-talked-about The Terrorist and two children’s films Halo and Malli, the man is busy shooting in Bollywood.
Santosh has cinematographed the noted film critic Khalid Mohammed’s directorial debut Fiza, which casts latest heartthrob Hrithik Roshan, Karisma Kapoor and Jaya Bachchan.
Those who have seen the song and dance numbers from the film have been mesmerized particularly by Hrithik’s taandav sequence, which has been beautifully picturised by Santosh. In fact it is believed that it was Santosh, who, in the first place, persuaded Khalid Mohammad to direct the movie.
Over and done with Fiza, Santosh is again busy giving shape to the much-awaited Shah Rukh Khan production Ashoka the Great. Ashoka, being a historical film, it will certainly be a challenging job for Santosh to recreate on 70mm the nuances, subtleties and shades of an era long gone by.
