Meet Neha, Manoj Bajpai's girl
06th Sept 2000
By Tanuka Chakraverty

We have all heard and read about how an arrogant Ram Gopal Verma threw a hot-headed Manoj Bajpai out of his future project Jackpot.

Whether the cause of the unpleasant fallout was Ramu's arrogance or success hitting Bajpai's head, we are yet to establish. But the cat that has sprung out of the bag of differences between Ramu and Bajpai is worth talking about.

The story goes as following. Manoj Bajpai does have a girlfriend and that too, a protective one in Neha. Neha is that one film wonder, who appeared in Kareeb, failed to make a mark, and now is set to appear opposite Hrithik Roshan in Fiza.

The friendship between Manoj and Neha dates back to their days of struggle in Delhi. And Neha is also being smart enough to call it only a 'Delhi camaraderie' that they share. But there's more meat in the relationship than the eyes see.

Manoj and Neha have been spotted at suburban restaurants in Mumbai eating away to glory together. In another incident, the couple was having coffee at a five star restaurant when some men tried to make a pass at Neha. Without flexing his muscles or showing off fist power that Bollywood boys specialize in, gallant Manoj just got up and in a very dignified manner asked them to leave the place. And the baddies left the place.

Neha was floored. And since then she has been singing praises of Manoj the actor and Manoj the human being. The lady's association with the actor has even cost her the female lead in Jackpot. Ramu politely told Neha that her services were no more required for the film.

The fact that she was dropped from a project in the most unceremonious fashion possible, and lost a Ram Gopal film at the stage where Neha's career is today, have not made any dent in her relationship with Manoj. Though slightly disappointed for being no more in Jackpot Neha maintains "If I am good people will come to me".

And why not? Equations change within batting of eyelids in Bollywood. Today the audience only wants to see and talk to Hrithik at the premiere of Fiza in Calcutta, ignoring Neha's presence. But tomorrow it could be Neha's turn to hog all the limelight.

In this bizarre industry, it’s not only the newcomers who suffer feelings of insecurity, top stars are even more insecure.
