Bollywood heroines are not mere glam dolls

No matter what role they play in reel life, Bollywood actresses are showing remarkable maturity in real life. Everyday one hears more and more about tinseltown heroines espousing social causes.

If Dimple Kapadia has used her candle-designing workshop 'Faraway Tree' to chip in her bit to Maneka Gandhi's 'People for animals', Madhuri Nene Dixit has used her image to take the message of AIDS awareness to the masses through the electronic media.

Equally known is Manisha Koirala's determination to fight against trafficking in women across the Indo-Nepal border. No less commendable is the contribution of Nandita Das to provide relief to underprivileged children.

The message is loud and clear. Those who live under the canopy of stardom also empathize with others' suffering. Moreover, they are very much willing to use their advantageous position to propagate a social message.

The pull that these actresses command with the masses will naturally invigorate the social messages which otherwise could have gone unnoticed. What is really commendable is the fact that the stars are socially aware and utilizing it for a social cause.
