Maine Pyar Kiya’s success benefited almost all the actors that were a part of the film. Reema Lagoo became the industry’s favorite mother with a sense of fashion, a welcome change from the sulking, sobbing poverty-stricken brigade of Nirupa Roy and Company. Salman Khan, of course went on to become one of the formidable Khan trio of Bollywood.
The leading lady of the film, however could not scale greater heights after making quite an impact as the innocent Suman singing and sending love notes to her beloved through a pigeon. Bhagyashree’s first and last hit was Maine Pyar Kiya.
Bhagyashree was goodlooking, had simplicity, typical to actresses of yesteryears and gave a super-hit as her first film. If her career did not soar it was because of her rigidity. The actress married her childhood sweetheart Himalaya and kept a condition before producers that she would act in their films only if they took her husband opposite her.
Himalaya was a newcomer and producers were wary of casting a brand new face opposite Bhagyashree. After all, even Bhagyashree had still not established herself in the industry. But the actress was adamant. She was sure that she would act only opposite her husband.
Time flies, and the teenaged Bhagyashree who began her acting career with a tele-serial by Amol Palekar, changed her stance, but films stopped coming her way. She satiated her creative urge to act by going back to television and did some stray serials.
Finally, Bhagyashree is all set to appear in a powerful role on television in a serial titled ‘Sambandh’. She is shown in the serial as being caught between her career, marriage and another woman in her husband’s life.
