Mahima: Fighting against odds

Remember the pretty damsel for whom Aamir Khan, in a soft drink ad, dashed into rain and fetched cola? The sassy lass Mahima Chowdhary was catapulted to starry heights by her very first film Pardes.

But a streak of damp squibs that followed Pardes plummeted her screen value. Spotlight shifted away from Mahima and her marginal roles in films like Dhadkan and Deewane gave her little footage.

But Mahima is not the one who would throw in the towel and relegate herself to sidelines. Now she plays the femme fatale opposite Akshay Kumar in Khiladi 420.

Although one can be sure that Akky would hog the screen for the better part of the film, Mahima too is hoping to cut a dash with her improved voice modulation and expressive body language. She has spruced herself of the shortcomings of a debutante and matured into a better actress. Mahima is sure that if Khiladi doesn’t fuel her lagging film career, at least it will give it a push and get it back on the track.

Besides, she has a bagful of films that offer her tremendous scope to emote. She is paired with the likes of Sunil Shetty in MA Tujhe Salaam, Govinda in Mastaana and much-delayed Dil Ke Aas Paas. She will also contend for honors with the stalwarts like Rekha, Manisha and Madhuri Dixit in R.K. Santoshi's Lajja.

Mahima has proved a survivor. Surely, she is not the one to get bogged down by a few failures. She is determined to not rest until she gets her due.
