Meghna Gulzar, the daughter of poet-filmmaker Gulzar and actress of yore Rakhi, is all set to create a niche of her own.
At present, Meghna is busy directing her debut celluloid venture Filhaal. She has signed the likes of Tabu, Sushmita Sen, Sanjay Suri and Palash Sen of ‘Euphoria’.
Filhaal is a woman-centric film that exposes the many ways in which women are subjugated in this male-dominated society. Meghna has given an autobiographical touch to the film.
Filhaal has story, script and dialogues by Meghna herself. Anu Malik scores the music for the movie produced by top-notcher Jhamu Sughandh. Papa Gulzar is penning the lyrics.
Meghna tried various creative avenues like painting, story writing and poems before she decided to become a director. Having inherited the cinematic sensibilities of her father, Meghna does not conform to the standards of filmmaking in Bollywood. She wants to make films on different subjects.
She has also has made a few documentaries for small screen and assisted her father in the making of Maachis and Hu Tu Tu, and director Saeed Mirza.
Ask her about the influence of her father and mother, and Meghna is quick to point out that she is an extrovert like her mother. And when there is need to maintain calm , she becomes the daughter of her cool-as-cucumber papa.
