The Khandala girl Rani Mukherjee needs to be praised for her professionalism. Despite a tempting offer from the Chennai-based hit film maker Mani Ratnam, Rani refused to discard her prior commitments.
The industry grapevine has it that Mani Ratnam had approached Rani with an important role in his next Tamil film, but not the lead role. Now who doesn't want to act in a Mani film? Eager to work with the maker of hit films like "Roja" and "Dil Se", Rani somehow managed to squeeze out 30 dates from her busy schedule.
But Mani, it seems, had other ideas. All of a sudden, he decided to give the lead role to Rani. That meant a lot of footage for her in the film, and Mani demanded 60 shooting dates in bulk. Although it was a plum offer, Rani didn't swallow the bait. Rather, she stood by her prior commitments.
She also denied having refused the role because she wasn't happy with the money Mani had offered. "It was solely due to the shortage of enough dates". She further clarified that Mani and she are "on good terms" and that she was "looking forward to working with him in the near future".
