Raima Sen, the prodigious daughter of Moon Moon Sen, has made a promising start in Tollywood. Now she plans to shift to the greener pastures of Mumbai.

Raima, it seems, has inculcated the cinematic sensibilities from her grandmother Suchitra Sen. For, rather than taking a straight plunge into the glamorous world of Bollywood Raima is doing character roles. She made her debut in Hindi cinema in the National Award winning Godmother in which she was pitched opposite Shabana Azmi.

Now she has followed it up with another National Award winning film Daman.

In Daman Raima plays Raveena’s daughter, a small but challenging role. Kalpana Lazmi, the film’s director says that Raima was “rather timid at first” but that worked to her advantage as “the role demanded her to be shy and traumatized”.

While sister Riya Sen is still waiting to make her debut in the Bollywood with “Love You Hamesha” Raima seems to have taken a lead. Moreover, unlike Riya, Raima is not inclined towards the Bollywood’s masala films. She believes that “it is sheer waste of time acting for films that keep casting you in stereotypical roles time and again”.
