Jackie Shroff: Going for an image revamp

He has been a dashing hero and has given us a taste of his villainy. Jackie Shroff is now all set to revamp his image through an array of roles in the period films.

Jackie doesn't believe that the role of Ravana he is playing in Sanjay Khan's Maryadapurshottam is the ultimate villain he will get to play. He opines that Ravana was a "mahavidvaan, the highest scholar ever. Even Rama invited him to do a yagna before they battled," says the dashing hunk about his role in the film.

But what is really exciting Jackie is the role he has bagged in another historical called Agni Varsha, to be directed by Arjun Sajnani. The film, based on an episode from the famous epic of Mahabharata, casts Jackie as a Mahapurohit (head priest), a role with a tremendous scope for histrionics.

The role demands Jackie to look slim and wear a dhoti throughout the film. But what's enthralling is that it requires him shave off his moustaches (something he is particular about not doing). Jackie has faced camera sans his moustaches only once in Mahesh Bhatt's "Kaash", and that too only in the first half of the film.

Jackie reveals that it was only "the potential" of his role in "Agni Varsha" that prompted him to comply with the demands of the director. He further elaborates that he has started losing weight.

In both the films ("Maryadapurshottam" and "Agni Varsha") Jackie will be pitched opposite none other than Big B.
True that Jackie may not be getting all the meaty roles in the face of the raging Hrithik mania and the ruling Khan triumvirate. But still the macho hunk has managed to carve himself a niche in this competition-ridden industry.
