Kaho Na...Pyaar Hai, biggest blockbuster of year 2000, has been selected for eight categories of popular awards at the second International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards to be held at Sun City, South Africa on June 16.
The IIFA Awards were first held on June 16, 2000 at the Millennium Dome, London. The awards were well attended by the international glitterati, which included martial arts superstar Jackie Chan among others. This year's performers are Hrithik Roshan, Karisma Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, prince of pop fusion Taz among others. Current Miss World Priyanka Chopra and Kabir Bedi will host the awards function.
The IIFA Awards advisory board comprises luminaries like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Yash Johar, David Dhavan, J P Dutta, Jeetendra, Pahlaj Nihalani and Ramesh Sippy. The awards are designed to promote Indian cinema and the coming together of the industry at a global level.
The nominations were announced by Kabir Bedi, the anchor of the show at a press conference. Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, which swept all the popular awards in India, has been selected in the categories of Best Story, Best Direction, Best Picture, Best Actor in leading role, music direction, male playback singer, female playback singer and lyrics.
The grand function would be telecast on Sony Television. The technical awards will be announced later.
Apart from Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, Dhadkan, Kya Kehna, Mission Kashmir and Mohabbatein are in the race for the best film award.
While the young actor Hrithik Roshan, shares the nomination list for best actor with Akshay Kumar (Dhadkan), Anil Kapoor (Pukar), Sanjay Dutt (Mission Kashmir), Shahrukh Khan (Mohabbatein).
In the best actress category, Karisma Kapoor (Fiza), Madhuri Dixit (Pukar), Preity Zinta (Kya Kehna), Shilpa Shetty (Dhadkan) and Tabu (Astitva) are in the fray for the top award.
