In their attempts at having the upper hand, producers of the recent mega hits "Lagaan" and "Gadar-Ek Prem Katha" were pitted against each other, if reports are to be believed.
"Lagaan" was shown to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee before release - that's quite well-known now.
What is not so well known is that, not to be left behind, producer Nittin Keni and director Anil Sharma managed to pull a few strings and show the film to Home Minister Lal Krishna Advani. And just as Vajpayee went ga-ga over Lagaan, Advani, who is a fan of Sunny Deol (or rather Dharmendra), really liked 'Gadar.'
Besides, the 'Lagaan camp’ called Dilip Vengsarkar for the film party at the Regent in Mumbai while the 'Gadar' camp called Ajit Wadekar for their party at the President, after the premiere of the film.
Last heard, both producers were trying to get tax exemptions for their respective films.
