Shedding her oomph girl image, Shweta Menon plays the title role in Rajeevnath's women-oriented English film "Mama Is Waiting."

The role came to her after Juhi Chawla, who was slated to play the title role in the film, refused to do it. Just before the beginning of the shooting schedule Juhi told Rajeev that she was in the family way and thus unable to do the film.

Rajeev promptly cast Shweta who was playing Juhi's friend in the film.

Talking about her role, Shweta says "I was thrilled when Rajeev told me that I would be playing the title role in the film. It is a role, which is very close to my heart. I play a young girl who hates the idea of motherhood."

However, she is drawn to a young boy of ten years of age who has run away from his home. She decides to adopt the child legally, but before she can adopt him the boy disappears. The entire film revolves around the travails and tribulations of the young girl who decides to spend the rest of her life searching for the boy.

"I do not think I would ever be able to bag such a role like this in future. I am really indebted to Rajeev for having reposed the trust and faith in me to offer this role to me," she said.

The film, shot in Kirgijistan on a very low budget, aims at capturing the international market. Asked why the film was made in English, Rajeev said, "the film's subject needed to be told in English and set on a foreign location." Besides, “the market for good Malayalam films was shrinking." Rajeev plans to dub the film in Hindi and release all over India.
