So what if he failed to win the Oscar? Actor-producer Aamir Khan, whose Lagaan lost the coveted award by the proverbial whisker, flew into a welcome befitting a hero at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai on Thursday morning.
Speaking to reporters at the airport, Aamir, who had gone to Los Angeles along with the director of the film Ashutosh Gowarikar to attend Oscars award ceremony, said: "For me making good movies for the people is more important than bagging awards".
Lagaan had lost out to Bosnian film No Man's Land in the Best Foreign Language Oscar category.
Earlier, Aamir's father Tahir Khan shared with the reporters his disappointment over Lagaan failing to win the Oscar. "However, we shall try next time," he said.
A notable feature of the welcome to Aamir was the presence in large numbers of Bharatiya Yuva Janata Party workers at the airport when his flight landed at 12.30 am.
Incidentally, film actor Shahrukh Khan, who had gone abroad on a personal visit, was also on board the same flight.
Outside the airport, Aamir fans cooled their heels patiently to have a glimpse of their favorite actor.
