Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali says that glimpses of Devdas have lingered in his mind since childhood.
In an interview on BBC’s Face-to-face prior to the film’s release Bhansali admitted that making Devdas was ‘a cathartic experience’ for him.
He conceded that Devdas is one story that always lingered at the back of his mind ever since he understood the relationship between his father and mother.
He particularly remarked about the similarities between his father and Devdas. ‘Both of them were hesitant in expressing love,’ he said.
About his mother Bhansali said that she was a woman who ‘loved unconditionally’, just like Paro.
