‘Elizabeth’ director Shekhar Kapoor is making a film on the life of former South African president Nelson Mandela.
The film titled ‘Long Walk to Freedom’ is based on the autobiography of the legendary leader by the same title.
Shekhar, who announced his plans for the movie at the Capri-Hollywood film festival, has confirmed that Hollywood star Morgan Freeman will play the celebrated freedom fighter in the film.
Comparing Mandela with Mahatma Gandhi, Kapoor said that while he is “honored” to make a movie on such a great leader like Mandela, he was also “terrified at the onus of presenting the leader’s life story on screen.”
Kapoor is also planning to spend considerable time with Mandela to get a better overview of the 27 years he spent in prison for anti-apartheid activities before being released in 1990 after the white minority rule crumbled.
