Actress Sonali Bendre, who has been lying low for a long time after her marriage last year, has bagged the leading role in Basu Chatterjee’s next film titled Pratiksha.
The semi-realistic film will be a remake of the 1961 Bengali hit Saptapadi, starring Uttam Kumar and Suchitra Sen.
The original film, directed by Ajoy Kar, was an adaptation of a World War II tale written by master storyteller Tarashankar Banerjee.
Basu says that unlike Saptapadi, his film will be set in contemporary times. And unlike the heroine of the original movie (played by Suchitra Sen), Sonali will not play a soldier in Pratiksha.
The film will be shot in a start-to-finish schedule in September this year.
Sonali is also playing a pivotal role in Amol Palekar's non-mainstream Marathi film Anaahat.
