Many expectations were pinned to Abhishek Bachchan’s recent release Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost. However, the film doesn’t seem to be attracting movie buffs to theatres in its second week run.
Success has eluded Abhishek ever since he stepped under Bollywood’s arc lamps with JP Dutta’s ‘Refugee’. Since then, the actor has worked with a number of directors but no one has been able to give him a hit movie. Even Sooraj Bharjatya, who is known for giving hits like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, could not break Abhishek’s jinx of flops.
And now comes Apoorva Lakhiya, armed with the experience of having worked behind the camera in more than ten Hollywood flicks and having assisted Aamir Khan during the making of Lagaan. So, when a man of Lakhiya’s credentials decided to wield the megaphone and cast Abhishek as the leading man in his directorial debut, it looked as if Abhishek’s bad days were numbered.
But as Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost enters its second week, its box-office earning are showing a sign of dipping.
Critical opinion has it that while MSAMD as a good storyline, it lacks the intensity and cinematic beauty that a movie like Lagaan had. Add to it the comments saying that Abhi still needs to polish his acting skills. Singular bland expression that Abhishek so very often wears in his face won’t get him further as far as acting in films is concerned.
