Even as Amitabh Bachchan’s fans are celebrating his 61st birthday throughout India and abroad, the superstar will spend the day with his family and close friends at the launch of his movie Rajveer that marks the revival of his company ABCL.
Bachchan, who arrived on his birthday from Morocco where he was honored at a film festival, was greeted warmly by a huge crowd at the airport. A happy looking Big B mingled with his fans and shook hands with many of his admirers who had gathered to wish the superstar.
In a similar gesture in Thailand, where Bachchan enjoys popularity among the 80,000-strong Indian community, fans plan on cutting a 61-kg cake on Saturday evening. Two of Amitabh’s old movies Zanjeer and Trishul will be screened at a local hotel.
As for Bachchan, he plans to keep his birthday a low-key affair because of the demise of his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan early this year.
“It will be a simple affair that will feature the launch of Rajveer which will be produced by ABCL. Only family members and close friends will be present at the occasion,” Bachchan told reporters at the airport.
Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942 to his parents Harivanshrai and Teji Bachchan. He went to Sherwood College, a boarding school in Nainital, and then to Kirori Mal College in Delhi University where he earned a double MA. He also shots stints as a stage actor, radio announcer and freight company executive in Shaw Wallace in Calcutta, before heading for Bollywood to try his luck in movies. After initial failures in tinsel town, he became famous as the ‘angry young man’ after his scintillating performances in films like Zanjeer and Deewar.
Even as Bachchan attained a superstar status in Bollywood in 70’s the actor kept on doing semi-realistic roles in movies like Abhimaan, Milli and Chupke Chupke that brought to light a different side of Bachchan.
Today, as Big B turns 61 he is embarking on yet another ambitious project that marks the revival of his doomed company ABCL.
