After a three year hibernation, filmmaker Subhash Ghai will produce and direct a movie under his banner 'Mukta Arts Ltd.' which is celebrating its silver jubilee this year.
Ghai announced his prestigious projects - two films, one to be produced and directed by him and the second one to be produced by him at the foundation day of his film company.
The last film produced and directed by Ghai was ‘Yaadein’, starring Jackie Shroff, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor, which was a disaster at the box office. Ghai has also produced films like 'Rahul', 'Ek Aur Ek Gyarah' and 'Joggers Park'.
In 2000, Mukta Arts was the first movie production company to go public after the Centre accorded the 'Industry' status to the film industry.
A product of the Film Training Institute of India (FTII), Ghai started his career as a screen actor, then started writing screenplays and got his first directorial break in the film 'Kalicharan' (1976) which proved to be one of the biggest hits of its time.
Ghai bagged the national award for 'Karma' in 1986 as the best film on national integration. While his films like 'Pardes', 'Taal' had worldwide audience. The moviemaker, known in the film industry as the 'Showman' has also introduced, re-introduced actors like Jackie, Madhuri Dixit, Meenakshi Sheshadri, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Chowdhary among others.
Subhash Ghai started his production company in 1978 as a partnership concern to begin with, then formed the private limited Mukta Arts in 1982 and produced many blockbusters under the company which, till date, is one of the leading production houses in film making in India.
Mukta Arts is also in the process of setting up an international institute of film making in the Film City at Mumbai, a project which has come under a scanner and the state government has been facing criticism for giving away the plot at throwaway price.
