A Gurgaon-based writer has filed a suit in court alleging that the Khakee director Rajkumar Santoshi lifted the story’s idea from a script he narrated to the filmmaker in 1991.
Brijan Gaur, a writer claiming to be a member of Filmmakers’ Association Mumbai, has alleged that Santoshi and film’s producer Keshu Ramsey had violated the Copyright Act, Patent Act and Film and Cinematograph Act by lifting portions of Khakee from his story Zokhim.
Gaur alleges that he met Santoshi in 1991 through a common friend in Mumbai where he had narrated Zokhim story to the director. He also adds that he got his script registered with the Filmwriters’ Association in Feb 1992.
On the other hand, Santoshi says that Gaur’s claims are false and baseless. He says that the story idea for Khakee was of writer Sridhar Raghavan.
The Gurgaon court has fixed February 10 as the date of hearing for the case.
