Painter turned filmmaker Maqbool Fida Hussain has said that film making to him was like another medium of expression.
M F Hussain , who has just completed his new film ‘ Meenaxi : A tale of 3 cities' which is scheduled for release next month and the music of which was released recently, said he looked at cinema as a very powerful medium of expression.
Hussain told journalists in Mumbai recently that films should not be made only by keeping the viewers' likes and dislikes in mind and lamented that today film-making had become business and they were being made for profit only.
When asked how this situation would be changed, he said the change is happening already. He said some new filmmakers are experimenting with the medium. ''In the film industry what was an experiment today becomes a formula tomorrow''.
When asked about his reason to cast Tabu in his film, he said the film was written keeping Tabu in mind only.
The painter refused to categorise his film and said a film can be categorised as good and bad only. He said a commercial film can be a good film and a so-called art film can be a bad film.
He admitted that it was difficult to find financers to the kind of films he made.
When asked if he had to face any starry tantrums while making films, Hussain replied he was 80 years old and film stars respected his age ''that is why I have not come across any such situation,'' he added.
Hussain also informed that he was making his next film with Urmila Matondkar .
