Willingness to do sexually oriented roles seems to have become the mantra to recognition for certain newcomers in Bollywood.
The very definition of exposure in Hindi films is being redefined by some bold and gutsy newcomers in tinsel town. Intent on catching as much attention in the beginning of their acting careers, these belles are willing to go within the inches of forbidden limits set by our Indian sensibilities.
Consider the ‘Kaliyon Ka Chaman’ girl Meghna Naidu who didn’t really have to put her nose to the grindstone to catch attention in Bollywood. All she had to do was to sign two ‘hot movies’ in the beginning of her career. The title of the two movies – Hawas and Husn says it all about their content.
In Hawas Meghna plays a sexually unsatisfied wife who seeks physical gratification in her extra marital affair. In Husn she plays the wife of an aged man (played by Gulshan Grover) – again the role of an ‘unsatisfied’ woman who begins to use her sexuality to manipulate people.
Another new girl, Mallika Sherawat looks no less determined to get her name into the trailblazers to set new sexual standards in Bollywood films. A girl who takes pride in being called ‘sexy’, Mallika makes no bones about the extent to which she can go. In fact, she considered giving a completely nude scene for her coming movie Murder, but backed off at the last moment.
According to Mallika, Hindi films need to open up to more sexually oriented subject as “sex is the driving force of nature and affects many lives.” And one credit she truly deserves is in honestly accepting that she wants attention and fame in tinsel town.
But she seems to have forgotten that skinshow may get you an early attention but it certainly does not guarantee success for which talent is needed.
