Manisha Koirala has been approached to play the leading role in the Nepalese version of yesteryear hit ‘Mother India’ that starred Nargis.
The film titled ‘Nepal Amma’ will star veteran Nepalese actor-director Neer Shah and will be produced by a newly established production company called 888.
Manisha, who is Nepalese by birth, is reported to have given her verbal consent to be a part of the project.
In the film, she will play the role of a woman, who evolves from a shy bride to the village matriarch. Neer Shah will play the villainous moneylender, who becomes the cause of much of her woes. This role was played by actor Kanhaiyalal in the original movie.
The director of ‘Nepal Amma’ is yet to finalized.
Meanwhile, the film’s producers say that while ‘Nepal Amma’ will be majorly based on ‘Mother India’, some changes would be incorporated to suit the contemporary cinematic tastes.
The Nepalese version will feature songs in the style of nautanki. The film will first be shot in Nepalese and then dubbed in Hindi.
