Shackled and dressed in a dhoti, Aamir Khan was lead to the gallows pole during the shooting of the climax of Ketan Mehta’s ‘ The Rising ’.
The movie tells the story of the Indian uprising of the 1857 led by valiant sepoy Mangal Pandey against the British. The film also focuses on the friendship between Pandey and British Captain Gordon (Toby Stephens). Rani Mukherjee and Amisha Patel play their love interests.
Recently, director Ketan Mehta canned the climax of the movie showing the hanging of Mangal Pandey.
The spectacular climax, shot at sangam near Satara, featured nearly 700 extras, an elephant and fours horses. A platform had been erected at one end of a 200-meter wide parade ground. The platform is the hanging stage with a gallows pole and a noose meant for Mangal Pandey’s neck.
The scene featured shackled Aamir dressed in a dhoti, being escorted to the gallows by British soldiers while his friend Gordon looks on with teary eyes.
